Sunshine Village
The site is located in the Venice Beach area (slot number 6), and each student picked their own lot to work on. It was a group project, but each individual had to work on their design separately.
Sunshine Village is a 12 units apartment which is located at Venice Blvd. This complex includes 6 one-bedroom units and 6 two-bedroom units. Ground floor and rooftop are the public areas, and the first to third floors are the units.
This project mainly focused on saving energy by using natural light during the day. For this purpose, each unit is oriented in the way that they can receive more light during the day by windows and skylights.
Exploded Axion
Glass is one of the key materials in this design. It is used in the fence of the balcony and staircases, part of the hallway, and even elevators.
The public area includes a cafeteria on the ground floor, which has a view of the channel. Due to the Covid and social distance, there is a dining area on a rooftop.
